EAU CLAIRE -- "The Best of The Best" is the theme of Cabaret XX to be performed by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department in January 1998 in cooperation with University Centers.
The seven shows will be held Jan. 23-24 and Jan 29-31 in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center.
Cabaret is a 10-month project, with an operating budget of $15,000. The event has generated money for scholarships, awards, and departmental activities with funds totaling more than $100,000. Cabaret sets include the music of Jerry Lee Lewis, ABBA, the Beatles, Gloria Estefan, Andrew Sisters, Bangles, Elvis and Michael Jackson.
Concert Choir I will be directed by seniors Heather Broadwater, Winona, Minn., and Desirae Daniski, North Branch, Minn. Concert Choir II will be directed by junior Robert Schlidt, Hartford, and senior Jennifer Young, Eau Claire. Sophomore Katie Berglund Chisago City, Minn., and senior Koral Curkeet, Eau Claire, will direct the Women's Concert Chorale.
The Singing Statesmen will perform under the direction of senior Trent Brown, Plymouth, Minn., and junior Brian Lauterbach, Eau Claire. Cast choreographer is senior Katie Kelly, Brooklyn Center, Minn.
Cabaret is developed through the combined efforts of the choral and jazz divisions of the music and theatre arts department. The production provides students with practical experience in directing, arranging, choreographing, and technical staging. Students are involved in every aspect of the programs production and performance.
Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Jan. 23-24 and Jan 29-31 and 2 p.m. Jan. 24 and 31. An optional buffet dinner will be served in the Dulany Inn at 6 p.m. before the 7:30 p.m. performances. A deli and dessert cash buffet will be offered in the Council Fire Room beginning at 1 p.m. for the matinee performances and at 6:30 p.m. for evening performances. The matinees will offer alcohol-free beverages.
Show-only tickets are $13 for the public and UW-Eau Claire faculty and staff, $7 for people age 17 and under and senior citizens, or $6 with a UW-Eau Claire student ID.
Tickets for the dinner and show are $25.50 for the public and UW-Eau Claire faculty and staff, $19.50 for people age 17 and under and senior citizens, or $18.50 with a UW-Eau Claire student ID.
Advance tickets can be ordered by mail or by submitting an order form to the University Service Center. All orders will be processed and returned on a first-come, first-served basis. Window sales begin on Jan. 12.
Telephone orders will be accepted beginning Jan. 12 and must be accompanied by payment with either MasterCard or Visa. A $3 telephone order processing fee will be charged.
