Host Big Rivers Arts Festival
MAILED: Dec. 16. 1997|
EAU CLAIRE -- The ninth annual Big Rivers Arts Festival, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and the Eau Claire Area School District, will be open to the public from 2-5 p.m. Jan. 12-15 and 20-22 in the Foster Gallery of the Fine Arts Center.
A closing reception is slated for 1-4 p.m. Jan. 24 in the gallery.
About 40 visual art teachers from six school districts, several music and drama teachers from the Eau Claire school district, and several UW-Eau Claire staff and students will bring together the talents of young artists.
A variety of visual art from students in kindergarten through 12th grade will be featured, including drawings, paintings, prints, designs, pottery, sculpture, jewelry, fibers, photography, computer graphics and collage. Outside the gallery, students will perform vocal and instrumental music and drama.
The festival was started in 1989 by art teachers in the school district of Menomonie to promote the artistic talents of students of the Big Rivers Conference. The festival travels each year to a different school district in the Big Rivers Conference including Chippewa Falls, Eau Claire, Hudson, Menomonie, Rice Lake and River Falls.
Special arrangements may be made with the art department office, (715) 836-3277, for school groups wishing to view the exhibit during weekdays.
