EAU CLAIRE -- A February workshop titled "Hmong Religion and Cultural Values" will be offered by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire College of Arts and Sciences Continuing Education.
The workshop will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, in the Ramada Inn Conference Center.
Participants will examine traditional Hmong culture, beliefs, values and practices from the Hmongs perspective, and will enable service providers to better understand their Hmong clients' needs.
Among the topics that will be covered are history, courtship and marriage, child rearing, Hmong leadership, Shamanism and burial rituals.
Houa Vue Moua, co-author of "Trail Through the Mists" and a bilingual/bicultural interpreter for the Eau Claire City-County Health Department, will lead the course.
The registration deadline is Feb. 20, 1998.
The fee for the workshop is $80, which includes instruction, materials, refreshments and lunch.
