EAU CLAIRE -- The University Band of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will hold its first concert of the 1997-98 academic year at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 16 in Gantner Concert Hall of the Fine Arts Center.
The group, which has grown this year to more than 100 members, will be led by conductor Steve Catron. Catron, who has spent 13 years as a public school teacher and band director in Kansas and Missouri, is now a graduate assistant with the university bands.
The concert will feature the music of American composers Claude T. Smith, Frank Ticheli and Aaron Copland. The band will perform two foreign marches from Belgium and the Soviet Union. Another selection will be Grainger's popular arrangement of "Irish Tune From County Derry."
"It should be a very enjoyable concert for everyone," Catron said.
Ticket prices are $3.75 for the public; $2.75 for ages 17 and under, and 62 and over; or free for faculty and staff, and students with their UW-Eau Claire Blugold cards.
