EAU CLAIRE -- Carole Halberg will serve as acting director of University Advancement and President of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Foundation Inc. effective Jan. 1. Chancellor Larry Schnack announced the interim appointment during the Annual Meeting of the Foundation Oct. 29.
Provost Marjorie Smelstor, who will be UW-Eau Claire's acting chancellor after Schnack retires in December, will appoint Halberg to take over for David Utley, who is resigning as the university's chief advancement officer, effective Dec. 31. The position is responsible for all aspects of fund raising and advancement, including alumni relations, news service, publications and public relations.
A member of UW-Eau Claire's academic staff since 1981, Halberg is the director of alumni relations and major gifts. She previously served as acting executive director of the Foundation and coordinated fund-raising and alumni relations during the year before Utley joined UW-Eau Claire in April 1996.
Utley has accepted an assignment in Central Europe with the New York-based Foundation for a Civil Society, where he had worked prior to joining UW-Eau Claire.
