EPA Tribal Lands Science Scholarship
Awarded to Senior Sarah Burns

EAU CLAIRE -- University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire senior Sarah J. Burns, Cottage Grove, Minn., has received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Tribal Lands Environment Science Scholarship administered by the American Indian Studies and Engineering Society.
Burns, a biology education major, will receive $4,000 to be used for the 1997-98 academic year. She plans to graduate in May 1999, and aspires to be a teacher and coach.
Burns, the daughter of Terry and Mary Jo Burns, has been a member of the Blugold women's soccer team for four years, serving as captain in 1996. She also has been a mentor at Delong Middle School in Eau Claire, and a tutor for the university's Academic Skills Center.
This EPA distinction is one of several earned by Burns in the last four years. She earned academic distinction from 1993-95 and in 1996 received the Chucky Graves Memorial Scholarship. She was named the WWIAC Conference Player of the Week in 1994 and was awarded the Frances Barron and Arlyn W. Gravunder scholarships earlier this year.
