UW-Eau Claire Forensics Team Finishes
in Top 10 at Recent Tournaments

EAU CLAIRE -- The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire forensics team has placed in the top 10 at its two most recent tournaments.
On Nov. 11, the team traveled with its novice freshman competitors to a tournament at Normandale Community College in Minnesota where the team took second place overall. Freshman Arwen Dale, Eau Claire , placed first in informative speaking, and freshman Angie Hambrick, Milwaukee, took second in poetry interpretation and fourth in the oral interpretation category. Freshman Cate Dunham, Hartland, placed third in after dinner speaking. Freshman Barb Ellevold, Pulaski, placed third in poetry interpretation and fourth in prose interpretation. Freshman Arwen Williams, Eau Claire, took third place in rhetorical criticism.
The team earned an eighth-place finish at the Bradley tournament in Peoria, Ill. Senior Mike Paulus, Eau Claire, was a varsity prose semi-finalist and placed sixth in the varsity duo competition with fellow senior Holly Pyrek, Horicon, and third with junior Ann Hackel, Eau Claire. Pyrek took sixth in rhetorical criticism and senior Nicole Defenbaugh, Wales, earned a fourth place trophy in the event. In novice after dinner speaking, junior Kate Grosskopf, Fall Creek, placed seventh. Junior Melanie Miller, Anoka, Minn., placed sixth in varsity poetry, while Ellevold placed fifth in novice prose interpretation. Dale also placed third in novice informative speaking.
