EAU CLAIRE -- The Hmong Mutual Assistance Association and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will sponsor a Hmong New Year's celebration Nov. 15 and 16 at the McPhee Physical Education Center on campus.
Faculty, staff, students and community members are invited to share in the festivities which will run from 8 a.m. to midnight Saturday, Nov. 15, and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16.
Scheduled events include traditional Hmong ball tossing, performance of Hmong folk songs, a fashion show, traditional dance performances, reading of Hmong poems (peotries), a martial arts demonstration, magic shows, traditional music shows (Qeej), and other live music and dance performances.
The Saturday evening program will begin at 6 p.m. with the performance of Song V. Xiong, one of the most popular Hmong soft voice singers. Live dance music will be provided by the Demix Band of Minneapolis.
Tickets are available through the Hmong Mutual Assistance Association and at the door on the days of the events. Admission to the day program is $3, admission to the evening program is $6 in advance or $8 at the door.
