EAU CLAIRE -- An Art Faculty Show will be on display Nov. 4-26 in the Foster Gallery of the Fine Arts Center at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
The show will feature works by UW-Eau Claire art faculty members Stephen Katrosits and Bobby Pitts.
Pitts will present "Faces of China," which was inspired during a trip he made to Jinan University during the fall semester of 1996. At the university, he researched the potential of graphics-based computer software for the creation of fine art. And while traveling to the major cities in China, he created artworks consisting of paintings and computer manipulated photographs.
"The images displayed here reflect the use of traditional drawing and painting techniques as well as the attempt to employ the same techniques in the use of digital media," Pitts said.
The first exhibition of the work occurred at Jinan University at the Computer Science Research Institute in Guangzhou. It will be displayed in the Foster Gallery show as a web site.
"For the subject of my research, I chose to focus on the people of China who were new to me and whom I admired for their friendliness, spirit and hard work," he said.
Katrosits' display is of a different nature and style. It includes models for small abstract paintings done on wood and much about 1960s decor, office interiors and advertising catalogues for contract interiors.
"These are the kinds of things I'd like to find at thrift sales but can't," Katrosits said.
An opening reception will be held from 7:30-9 p.m. Nov. 4 in the Foster Gallery.
Gallery hours are 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays and 1-4:30 p.m. weekends.
