EAU CLAIRE -- The Common Faces will present three free concerts at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Oct. 23-25.
The Madison-based group will begin its shows at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday in The Cabin, Davies Center. Refreshments will be sold.
The Common Faces are Asa Miura, acoustic six-string and 12-string guitars and vocals; Mary Gaines, acoustic and electric bass guitars, cello and vocals; and Chris Wagoner, acoustic and electric violins, steel and electric mandolins, and vocals.
The group's self-described folk-soul sound has been called "a wonderful melange of folk, funk, R & B and jazz" (The Capital Times). The Wisconsin State Journal has called The Common Faces "a jazzy folk/pop trio ... talented and a truly fun band to see."
Its four CD releases -- including the much-acclaimed "Over the Edge" production by Rolling Stone magazine Producer of the Year Butch Vig -- have fueled over 100 club, college and festival appearances per year in the United States and Europe. The Common Faces has shared the stage with such music industry notables as Suzanne Vega, Richie Havens, The Band, Peter Himmelman, The Nylons and David Grisman. Members of the trio have done session work on recordings by Smashing Pumpkins, Freedy Johnston, EMF and U2.
The Cabin program is sponsored by the University Activities Commission of the UW-Eau Claire Student Senate.
