EAU CLAIRE -- Soma Pierce, a University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire senior music major from Marine on St. Croix, Minn., will be among those honored at a women's studies conference this month.

Pierce will be honored during the UW System's fourth annual reception to celebrate and recognize women of color. The event is slated for 5:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 24 at UW-La Crosse.

The reception is held in conjunction with the 22nd annual women's studies conference titled "Making Environmental Connections: Women, Communities and Land." The conference is sponsored by the UW System Office of Multicultural Affairs, the UW System Women's Studies consortium and UW-La Crosse.
