EAU CLAIRE -- The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire chapter of Habitat for Humanity will sponsor Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week Oct. 13.-17.
Throughout the week several events have been scheduled to promote awareness of hunger and homelessness in the Chippewa Valley.
A food drive will be held in all campus residence halls Monday, Oct. 13, through Friday, Oct. 17. Students can donate non-perishable food in boxes located in residence hall lobby areas. Members of the UW-Eau Claire Rod and Gun Club and Hobnailers will collect food at off-campus locations. Donated items will be given to the St. Francis Food Pantry and the Feed My People Food Bank.
Students, faculty and the public can participate in the Buck-a-Board event Thursday, Oct. 14, and Wednesday, Oct. 15, on the Central Campus Mall. Participants donate $1 and sign their name to lumber used in the Habitat for Humanity program. The funds are used to purchase materials for home construction.
At 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, a candlelight vigil will begin at the Ecumenical Religious Center, 110 Garfield Avenue. Students and members of the public will share songs and readings. Following the vigil, a shantytown will be set up behind Zorn Arena.
