EAU CLAIRE -- Preschool gymnastics programs called "Leap Into Fall" will be offered this month at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
The two programs will follow official Olympic guidelines for the athletic development of young gymnasts.
The first session, titled "Moms, Dads, and Tots," is for children age 2 and 3. The boys and girls will learn gymnastics basics, and parents are encouraged to attend. It's limited to 15 children. The cost is $29 for one session per week or $56 for two sessions a week.
"Just for Kids" is designed for children age 4 and 5. The children will learn more about the basics of gymnastics and be introduced to the various apparatus. It is limited to seven children. The cost is $45 for one lesson per week or $88 for two lessons a week.
Session one of both workshops will run at several times during the weeks of Sept. 15 to Oct. 25 and the second sessions will run the weeks of Oct. 27 through Dec. 13.
Lisa McIntyre, UW-Eau Claire's women's gymnastics coach, will the program instructor. She has more than 10 years coaching experience and was an elite gymnast who toured with the 1984 U.S. Olympic gymnastic team.
The program is sponsored by UW-Eau Claire's department of kinesiology, athletics, and the UW-Eau Claire Office of Continuing Education in Human Sciences and Services Outreach in cooperation with UW-Extension.
