EAU CLAIRE -- Graduating senior Kristi Kubousek, Oconomowoc, will do more than just receive a diploma at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire commencement Aug. 9 -- she'll be addressing the audience as summer commencement speaker. Kubousek, who began thinking about giving the summer commencement speech several months ago, will focus on taking a chance. "Life is a chance," Kubousek said. "You need to grab opportunities and see where they take you." Kubousek, who is a communication arts major with an emphasis in organizational communication, hopes to find a job in human resources. She is currently interning with the city of Eau Claire human resources department. While attending UW-Eau Claire, Kubousek worked on the student-run television station TV-10 for three and a half years. She began working at TV-10 as a programmer and eventually became director and co-host of the "Soapbox," a half-hour talk show about soap opera serials. "I liked being able to give my own input," she said. "Working with peers is a really neat experience." Kubousek double minored in Spanish and Latin American studies. She lived in Paraguay for a summer immediately following high school. "It improved my Spanish," she said, noting that she hopes to use this experience in finding a job. She is still looking at job options in the human resources field. -30- ML/JB
