EAU CLAIRE -- Michael D. Whittlinger is the 1997-98 recipient of the $400 Jim Fisher Memorial Scholarship.

Whittlinger, Janesville, is a sophomore biology major at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

The scholarship is made available through the heirs and friends of the late Jim Fisher. Fisher was the outdoors columnist for the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram for many years. He had a great love of the outdoors, and promoted its use for managed hunting, fishing, hiking and logging.

The scholarship is awarded each year to a freshman, sophomore or junior level UW-Eau Claire student interested in pursuing a career in the environmental or natural resources management fields.
