EAU CLAIRE -- A free outdoor concert by alternative country-folk singer Dennis Warner will begin the last week of Summer Session Programs at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Monday, Aug. 4. The show will run from 7 to 9 p.m. on the Central Campus Mall (rain: Schofield Auditorium). Refreshments will be sold.
Dennis Warner performs an array of original music, popular hits and off-the-wall comedy songs. Based in the Twin Cities, he has been featured on local and regional programs on National Public Radio and WCCO Radio. A member of the Country Music Association and the Nashville Songwriters Association, he has won awards for two of his songs and appears regularly at such famous Nashville writers' clubs as The Bluebird Cafe.
Also on campus during the week of Aug. 4 are these free Summer Session Programs:
- "Emma" (1996) will conclude the Summer Session film series with screenings at noon and 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday in Davies Theatre. Gwyneth Paltrow plays the title role in this adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel. Set in the English countryside in the early 1800s, the story is that of Miss Emma Woodhouse, a young woman so devoted to meddling in the lives and romantic affairs of others that she just may miss her own chance to learn about love for herself. The 111-minute film is rated PG.
- The Robert Baca Quartet will present a jazz concert from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday on the Central Campus Mall (rain: The Cabin, Davies Center). Refreshments will be sold.
Summer Session Programs are sponsored annually by the Activities and Programs Office.
