EAU CLAIRE --The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will offer Summer Choir as part of Summer Session 1997 under the direction of Gary Schwartzhoff, director of choral activities.
The Summer Choir will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Fine Arts Center.
The choir's concert will be held during the UW-Eau Claire Choral Symposium. The symposium, July 14-16, will feature Henry Leck from Butler University, Indianapolis, Ind., and Emily Crocker from Hal Leonard Publishing Corp. in Milwaukee.
Each of the headline clinicians will be featured as a guest conductor at the Summer Choir program. The Summer Choir performance is a featured session during the Choral Symposium where guest clinicians present music and choral techniques which are being discussed with the music educators in attendance at the workshop.
Henry Leck, an internationally recognized choral director, is widely known as a specialist in the child's voice and boy's changing voice. He is the founder and artistic director of the Indianapolis Children's Choir, a program of 850 children in 12 choirs in residence at Butler University. Emily Crocker is among the premiere writers specializing in music for young choirs. She has more than 100 works currently in print and has received numerous awards.
The Summer Choir will perform a variety of repertoire with the three conductors. The concert program will feature "Domine, Ad Adjuvanum Me Festina" by Il Padre G.B. Martini; "Two South African Feed Songs" arranged by Henry Leck; and "Broadway Legends: Lerner and Loewe" arranged by Mac Huff.
Rehearsals for Summer Choir will be June 17, 19, 24 and 26 in Schofield Auditorium and July 1, 8, 10 and 14 in room 143 of the Fine Arts Center.
Community members interested in participating in the program, should call the music and theatre arts office at (715) 836-4954 by June 10. Summer Choir members must purchase their music at the first rehearsal June 17.
