EAU CLAIRE -- The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will offer gymnastics programs in August.
The program will follow official Olympic guidelines for the athletic development of gymnasts.
Gymnasts will be divided into groups of 2- and 3-year-olds, and 4- and 5-year-olds. Boys and girls ages 2 to 3 will learn gymnastics basics in "Moms, Dads and Tots." Parents are encouraged to participate. The session is limited to 15 children. Boys and girls ages 4 to 5 will learn more about the basics of gymnastics and will be introduced to the various apparatus in "Just for Kids." The session will be limited to seven children.
Both sessions will be held Aug. 4, 6, 11, 13, 18 and 20 in the McPhee gymnasium at UW-Eau Claire. The "Moms, Dads and Tots" session will run from 9 to 9:45 a.m. and the "Just for Kids" session will be from 10 to 11 a.m.
The "Moms, Dads and Tots" session costs $29 and the "Just for Kids" program costs $45.
Lisa McIntyre, UW-Eau Claire's women's gymnastics coach, will lead the sessions. McIntyre has more than 10 years of coaching experience. An elite gymnast, McIntyre toured with the 1984 U.S. Olympic gymnastic team.
