EAU CLAIRE -- Dennis and Carol Heyde have been selected to receive the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Alumni Distinguished Service Award.
The Chippewa Falls couple, both 1972 graduates of UW-Eau Claire, will receive the award in recognition of their many contributions to the Chippewa Valley and the university. It's the highest award presented by the Alumni Association to its graduates.
"The Heydes have a long history of working to improve the lives of people living in the Chippewa Valley as well as students at UW-Eau Claire," said Carole Halberg, director of Alumni Relations and Major Gifts. "We are proud to honor two outstanding alumni who are such strong partners."
Halberg said this is the first time the Alumni Association has presented the award to an alumni couple.
The Heydes have founded and operated a number of Eau Claire area businesses including nursing homes, travel agencies, restaurants and motels. The businesses have employed more than 800 people in the Chippewa Valley.
In addition, the Heydes have been active in numerous service organizations including serving on the boards of the Chippewa Falls and Eau Claire United Ways, the Chippewa Falls Chamber of Commerce board of directors, the Chippewa Area Industrial Development Board, and the Indian Water Girl Scout Council. Dennis Heyde has served as president of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation.
In 1995, the Dennis L. Heyde Chair of Entrepreneurship was established at UW-Eau Claire to benefit the College of Business Entrepreneurship Program. The chair, established by Dennis and Carol Heyde, was the university's first endowed chair. The $1.5 million endowment fund will support student scholarship, program development and other initiatives for the Entrepreneur Program. Dennis Heyde also serves on the Business Advisory Council for the College of Business and is a guest speaker in classes.
Dennis Heyde earned his bachelor's degree in business administration and Carol Heyde earned her degree in medical technology.
The Heydes will be honored during an Alumni Distinguished Service Award Luncheon Saturday, May 24. A reception will begin at 11:45 a.m. in the Dulany Inn of Davies Center at UW-Eau Claire. A luncheon will follow at noon. Cost to attend the luncheon is $9. For more information or to make a reservation, call (715) 836-5607.
