UW-Indianhead Arts and Education Center Announces Summer Clinic and Performance Schedule

EAU CLAIRE -- The 1997 University of Wisconsin Indianhead Arts and Education Center show time and course schedule has been announced.

Courses include a range of arts-related offerings as well as clinics for those interested in athletics, business, education and continuing education. Course offerings are presented though UW-Outreach, with credit available through several UW campuses.

The UW-Indianhead Arts and Education Center, founded in 1968, is located in Shell Lake. The Center was originally established to promote the arts and humanities at all levels of learning and has now expanded its offerings to all disciplines.

Clinics are available for students in grades seven through 12. Clinics include: theater, June 8-13; jazz ensemble and combo, June 15-20, 22-27 and June 29-July 4; show choir, July 6-11 and 20-25; student composition and arranging, July 13-18; and concert band, July 13-18. No credit is available for student clinics.

Music workshops include: Rousseau saxophone, June 8-13; jazz techniques, June 16-27; jazz pedagogy, June 16-27; conducting, July 14-18; piano tuning, July 21-Aug. 8; MIDI basics, July 28-Aug. 1; beginning vocal jazz, July 28-Aug. 1; band repertoire, July 28-Aug. 1; bass repair, July 21-25; percussion techniques for non-percussionists, July 28-Aug. 1; MIDI: Beyond the Basics, Aug. 4-8; and woodwind repair, July 28-Aug. 1. Credit is available for music workshops.

Visual and textile arts courses include: "Woodcarving waterfowl,' June 9-13; "Abstract Symbol: Personal Language," July 28-Aug. 1; Experimental Mixed Media," July 28-Aug. 1; "Graphic Arts," July 28-Aug. 1; "Quiltmaking, Small and Sensational Landscapes," Aug. 4-8; The Elusive World of Watercolors," Aug. 4-8, and Watercolors, Color and Design," Aug. 4-8. Credit is available for visual and textile arts courses. Directing techniques, a theatre arts course, will be held Aug. 4-8.

Performances will be held throughout the summer and begin at 7 p.m. Performances include: Rousseau saxophone recital, Sunday, June 8; saxophone concert, Thursday, June 12; theater production, Friday, June 13; jazz ensemble concert, Friday, June 20; Tribute to the Big Bands, Wednesday, June 25 (special admission price is $8 for adults and $4 for students); jazz ensemble concerts, Fridays, June 27 and July 4; show choir concert, Friday, July 11; concert band concert, Friday, July 18; show choir concert, Friday, July 25; vocal jazz, percussion and MIDI concert, Thursday, July 31 and MIDI concert and art exhibit, Thursday, Aug. 7. Admission for all performances is $4 for adults and $2 for students.
