MAILED: April 7, 1997 EAU CLAIRE - Indie-rock band the Archers of Loaf will appear in concert Friday, April 18, at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Skeleton Key and Cheer-Accident will open the show, which will begin at 8 p.m. in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center. A Rolling Stone reviewer once categorized the Archers of Loaf as being "on top of the Chapel Hill, N.C., heap." With three independent-label albums to its credit -- including 1993's "Icky Mettle," which Spin magazine called "a near perfect indie rock album" -- the band has just released its first major-label effort, "All the Nations Airports" (Elektra). Tickets are $7 ($5 with a UW-Eau Claire student ID card) at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727, and will be sold at the door. The show is open to all ages; proof of age is required in the bar area. The concert is sponsored by the University Activities Commission of the UW-Eau Claire Student Senate.
