MAILED: April 16, 1997 EAU CLAIRE - Earth Fest '97 will take place from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, on the Central Campus Mall at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire as a way of celebrating Earth Day. Earth Fest events include a performance by the local band the Beatles as well as an appearance by Oscar the Grouch, who will hand out literature on how to recycle. "Big Pile of Trash," a contest to see how much garbage a residence hall builds up in one day, is also scheduled. During the week, 25 cent refills will be available with a refill mug at Burger King, Little Niagara and the Food Court. Earth Day and Earth Fest '97 buttons will also be handed out. Earth Fest is sponsored by the Residence Hall Environmental Group, Student Environmental Action Coalition, Student Radio Initiative and UW-Eau Claire Recycle.
