MAILED: March 18, 1997 EAU CLAIRE - The Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company will perform at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Monday, April 7. The Artists Series presentation will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Fine Arts Center. "Ririe-Woodbury brought the audience to its feet applauding," Dance magazine reported after a performance by the Salt Lake City-based company. "Its jazzy, bouncy rhythms were exuberantly performed... They have one direction -- forward." The Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company has existed as a professional company since 1964 -- performing, teaching classes and workshops, and conducting residencies across the United States and throughout the world. Artistic co-directors Shirley Ririe and Joan Woodbury, both tenured professors in the University of Utah modern dance department, have choreographed more than 160 works for the company and continue to create new dances each year. The company regularly commissions and presents new works by young choreographers and established dance innovators. Its repertoire emphasizes humor, theatricality and inventive use of media. Tickets are $15 for the general public; $13 for those age 62 and over, and UW-Eau Claire faculty/staff; or $5 for those age 17 and under, and UW-Eau Claire students. Tickets are available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727, and will be sold at the door. The Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company performance is supported by Arts Midwest, a regional arts organization serving America's heartland, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and other public and private institutions. The Artists Series is made possible by student funds allocated by the UW-Eau Claire Student Senate.
