EAU CLAIRE -- The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning Monday, Feb. 24. All events are free and open to the public.


  • Thomas Luer, a senior music major from Chippewa Falls, will present a student alto saxophone recital at 8 p.m. in the Phillips Recital Hall of the Fine Arts Center. Luer will perform pieces by Leon Stein, Alexander Glazounov, Ida Gotkovsky and Phil Woods. He will be accompanied by Judy Lies, a senior from Chippewa Falls, on piano and assisted by Lisa Whipkey, a junior music major Stillwater, Minn., on violin and Scott Courier on piano.


  • Andrew Jaeger, a senior music major from Dousman, and Matthew Franko, senior music major from White Bear Lake, Minn., will present a joint student trombone recital at 5 p.m. in the Phillips Recital Hall of the Fine Arts Center. They will perform pieces by Richard Lieb; J. Ed Barat; Halsey Stevens; Ferdinand David; Biagio Marini; Anton Bruckner, assisted by Todd Schendel, Heather Oliverson and Matthew Hall; and Michael Nelson, assisted by Matt Mealey, Clay Pufahl, Kyle Newmaster and Chris Gumz. Jaeger and Franko will be accompanied by Roger Bethard on piano.
