EAU CLAIRE - Hypnotist and comedian Tom DeLuca will bring his blend of psychic parody and stage hypnosis to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Tuesday, March 4.
Named Campus Entertainer of the Year in 1996 by the National Association for Campus Activities - and recipient of the prestigious award twice before - DeLuca will begin his show at 8 p.m. in Schofield Auditorium.
DeLuca combines the power of suggestion with his volunteers' innate creativity, creating a blend of fantasy where the participants speak like aliens from distant worlds, pose in body building competitions, or really believe they are the world's greatest dancers. Besides being funny, his show gives us insight into common traits we all share.
"His approach is to forgo the gimmickry to reveal the fun and wonder hidden in the attics of his volunteers' minds," Rolling Stone magazine said. "There are moments of joy and happiness on stage."
DeLuca earned a master's degree in psychology from Sangamon State University. While working as a therapist, he began appearing before local civic groups and was encouraged to become an entertainer. Refining his act in Midwest nightclubs and developing it further with Chicago's Second City comedy troupe, DeLuca began performing on college campuses and quickly was established as one the most unusual and popular entertainers on the circuit.
Tickets are $7 ($5 with a UW-Eau Claire student ID card) at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727, and will be sold at the door.
The show is sponsored by the University Activities Commission of the UW-Eau Claire Student Senate.
