EAU CLAIRE - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire School of Nursing will offer free health evaluation clinics for infant through middle-school age children in February and March. The clinics will include a physical assessment, developmental screening, nutrition assessment, vision and hearing screening and a review of the child's health history. Children ages 3 and up also will receive urine testing. Graduate and junior nursing students conduct the clinics under the supervision of certified nurse practitioners. Supervisors will be available to sign physical examination forms for preschool, day care, kindergarten or camp. Referrals are made to appropriate resources as necessary. Students may follow the clinics with home visits during the spring semester in order to provide a summary of clinic findings, expand their understanding of the joys and concerns of parenting, explore stimulation of child learning in the home, and provide information on health and development topics of interest to the family. The clinics are paced to allow explanation of procedures to the child so that it can be a positive experience with health care for the children. Allow about two hours for the screenings. Limited appointments are available by calling (715) 836-5515. -30- UW-Eau Claire News Bureau Schofield 218 (715) 836-4741 newsbur@uwec.edu Updated: April 23, 1997 |
