EAU CLAIRE - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire department of mathematics will host the 15th annual regional Mathematics Meet for high school students Saturday, Feb. 8.
Private and public schools from an 80-mile radius of Eau Claire have been invited to send one or more teams to compete in the annual event. The event features separate competitions for small, medium and large schools.
Participants will compete for team championships as well as individual honors. First- and second-place teams and top individuals will receive trophies. All competitors and team sponsors will receive T-shirts and certificates.
Six UW-Eau Claire scholarships totaling $3,300 also will be awarded at the meet. The scholarships are supported by a grant to the UW-Eau Claire mathematics department from Northern States Power.
High schools that competed in past meets included Augusta, Brookwood, Cashton, Aquinas (La Crosse), Chippewa Falls, Durand, Eau Claire Memorial, Eau Claire North, Fall Creek, Granton/Neillsville, Holmen, La Crosse Central, Logan, Medford, Mondovi, Osseo-Fairchild, Prairie Farm, Regis (Eau Claire), Rib Lake, Royall, Somerset and Stanley-Boyd.
The registration fee is $30 per team. Fees cover the cost of contest materials, awards and refreshments.
In case of bad weather, the meet will be held Saturday, Feb. 22.
