Regional Employers Invited to Attend
UW-Eau Claire's Internship Mania Event

 MAILED:  Dec. 8, 2004

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire will offer employers an opportunity to recruit student interns during Internship Mania 2005. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center.

For the seventh consecutive year, Career Services and various student organizations will sponsor the event that includes employer booths highlighting internship opportunities. Last year more than 1,500 students and 100 employers attended the event.

Internship mania allows local employers to gain a competitive edge in recruiting interns and future permanent employees, to promote their businesses to UW-Eau Claire students and faculty, and to develop a working relationship with the university community.

"Internship Mania allows students to do some face-to-face networking with a variety of employers," said Eileen Oswald, a career counselor at UW-Eau Claire and Internship Mania coordinator.

Oswald believes that interning is a critical task for students of all majors. "In the past internships were looked at as optional," she said. "But now they've almost become a required part of a student's liberal arts degree program."

Employers interested in purchasing a booth space can register by going online at the Internship Mania Web site. Online registration will allow employers to receive immediate confirmation via e-mail and the ability to update their registration online prior to the event.

Early registration is suggested as space is limited. Registration for the event costs $150. A $25 discount will be awarded to employers who register before Jan. 19. This includes a 3' x 6' table for each organization, a continental breakfast the morning of the event and a lunch buffet for two organization representatives.

Employers that are interested in attending but do not have the funding for such an event may apply for an employer scholarship. Chippewa Valley employers that are unable to attend the event can purchase ad space in a special section of the Internship Mania employer booklet created for local companies and organizations. Contact Oswald for more information at (715) 836-5358 or send e-mail to InternshipMania@uwec.edu.
