EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Jazz Ensemble I under the direction of Robert Baca, professor of music, will perform a fall concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
"Count Basie: 100th Birthday Celebration Concert" will feature a variety of student solos and compositions by great jazz artists.
The program will begin with "Gon An' Git It Y'all" by Frank Foster and continue with "Round Midnight" by Miles Davis; "The Poem" by Mike Crotty; "Three Romances" by Maria Schneider; and "E-Ticket" by Chuck Owen.
The second half of the program will include Sammy Nestico's "It's Oh, So Nice," "Blues In Hoss Flat" and "Magic Flea." The three remaining pieces of the program, featuring composer Count Basie, will include "One O' Clock Jump," "Shiny Stockings" and "Travlin' Light."
Tickets, available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727 or (800) 949-UWEC, are $5 for the general public; $4 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger and faculty and staff with a university ID; and $1.50 for students with a university ID.
