UW-Eau Claire Senior Art Exhibit
To Open at Foster Gallery Dec. 3

 MAILED:  Nov. 24, 2004

EAU CLAIRE — Eight bachelor of fine arts candidates at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will present "Envision," a senior graphic design and studio art exhibition, Dec. 3-12 in the Foster Gallery of Haas Fine Arts Center. A public reception will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, in the Foster Gallery.

"Envision" will exhibit the graphic design works of Angela Ferraro, Rochester, Minn.; Kyle Grube, Kaukauna; Courtney Kupsch, Madison; Alyson Pilch, Phillips; Koryn Warner, Cottage Grove, Minn.; and Mary Vorndran, Baraboo.

Graphic design exhibits will include posters, logos, package designs, brochures, photography, stationery, magazine layout and a variety of other works.

"Art is a way for me to communicate visually," Pilch said. "I think the most unique aspect of graphic design is the relationship between art and life and how the boundaries are crossed."

"One of the greatest things about being a designer is being able to take a variety of design elements and combine them to effectively communicate with your audience," Kupsch said. "I am particularly influenced by one of my favorite anonymous quotes: 'designers must spin clutter into clarity and trash into treasure.'"

Students exhibiting their work in studio art are Meg Bondioli, Park Falls, and Laura Schumacher, Coon Rapids, Minn. Pilch also will exhibit studio art works.

Studio art exhibits will include figurative paintings and drawings, illustrations in a variety of mixed media, ceramics and sculptures.

Schumacher said that her art usually tells a story; Bondioli said that some of her figure art is similar to Lucian Freud's work in that the figures are often cropped and distorted slightly.

Foster Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays, 6-8 p.m. Thursdays and 1-4:30 p.m. weekends. For more information about gallery exhibits, contact Tom Wagener at (715) 836-2328.
