EAU CLAIRE — Special screenings of "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" (2003) Dec. 9-12 will close the fall semester of the campus film series at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The Academy Award-winning final chapter in director Peter Jackson's critically acclaimed trilogy will screen in Davies Theatre at 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and at noon and 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

"'The Return of the King,' the third installment of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, concludes one of the most ambitious and magnificent undertakings in the 90-year history of the feature film," wrote reviewer Mick LaSalle in the San Francisco Chronicle. "With the possible exception of the Russian 'War and Peace,' such a combination of monetary resources, creative talent and technical mastery has never been brought to bear on a movie project, and nothing on this scale is likely to occur again soon."

Directed by Peter Jackson, the film is rated PG-13 for intense epic battle sequences and frightening images.

Tickets are $2 for International Film Society members and UW-Eau Claire faculty and staff and $1 for UW-Eau Claire students. Tickets are available at the University Service Center in Davies Center 's east lobby, (715) 836-3727.
