The Los Angeles Piano Quartet
To Perform at UW-Eau Claire Dec. 6

 MAILED:  Nov. 19, 2004

EAU CLAIRE — The Los Angeles Piano Quartet, regarded as the premier ensemble of its kind, will perform Monday, Dec. 6, at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The Artists Series concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of Haas Fine Arts Center.

The program includes Mozart's Piano Quartet in G minor, Brahms' Piano Quartet, op. 60, and Faure's Piano Quartet in C minor.

The Los Angeles Piano Quartet has been praised by the public and press in American cities coast to coast and internationally for its concert and festival performances. The ensemble has been a popular guest on Minnesota Public Radio's " St. Paul Sunday" and New York 's "Live from WNCN." An American Record Guide reviewer described the quartet as producing "a compact, neat, well-rounded sound that is still aggressive when it needs to be. Athletic, they remind me of tennis players, crisp, controlled, their native nastiness bound in by the forms of what they do."

Members of the ensemble are Michi Wiancko, violin; Katherine Murdock, viola; Peter Rejto, cello; and Xak Bjerken, piano.

"Their playing imparted the contrasting tone color and musical dialogue that are the heart of great string/keyboard chamber music interpretations," wrote the Houston Post.

The quartet has recorded on the MusicMasters and Pickwick labels.

Tickets are $15 for the public, $13 for those 62 and older and UW System or Chippewa Valley Technical College faculty and staff, and $5 for those 17 and younger and UW System or CVTC students. Reserved seats are available at the Service Center counter in the east lobby of Davies Center . The Service Center is open Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Patrons may also charge their tickets to MasterCard or Visa when they order by phone. Call (715) 836-3727 - or, outside the immediate Eau Claire area, call toll-free (800) 949-UWEC. A $3 handling fee will be added to all telephone charge orders. General admission tickets will be sold at the door.

The Artists Series is supported in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin .
