EAU CLAIRE - University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education/UW-Extension will offer a class in jewelry design using the fundamental methods of lost wax casting. The class is designed for adults; no previous jewelry design or metalsmithing background is necessary. Classes will meet from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 27 through March 17, in Room 102 of the Haas Fine Arts Center on the UW-Eau Claire campus.
Instructor Jolee Mickesh, a practicing goldsmith artist, has taught Lost Wax Casting-Jewelry Design at UW-Eau Claire for seven semesters. Participants complete one or two projects through the lost wax casting process, learn to use various types of waxes for models and basic stone setting, develop a fundamental understanding of metalsmithing and traditional lost wax methods, and learn the safe use of hand tools and power machinery employed in the process.
Program tuition is $365 per person, which covers the cost of instruction and lab fees.
Class size is limited, so early registration is encouraged. To register or for more information, contact UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education/UW-Extension at (715) 836-3636 or toll-free (866) UWEC4CE, or e-mail ce@uwec.edu.
