EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Wind Symphony and Symphony Band will present a joint concert at 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
The Symphony Band, conducted by Dr. Phillip Ostrander, assistant professor of music, will open the concert with "Shortcut Home" by Dana Wilson, "Suite Francaise" by Darius Milhaud and "October" by Eric Whitacre. The band will conclude the first half with "Blue Lake Overture" by John Barnes Chance.
The Wind Symphony, under the direction of Dr. Richard Mark Heidel, assistant professor of music, will begin its portion of the concert with "Country Band March" by Charles Ives. The program also will include Concerto in F minor for Bass Tuba and Band by Ralph Vaughan Williams, featuring Dr. Jerry Young, professor of music, as the tuba soloist; "O Magnum Mysterium" by Morten Lauridsen; and Symphony No. 6 for Band, Op. 69 by Vincent Persichetti. The program will conclude with "His Honor" by Henry Fillmore.
Frank Battisti, conductor emeritus of the New England Conservatory of Music Wind Ensemble, will be featured as guest conductor with both the Symphony Band and Wind Symphony. Battisti is a very active guest conductor; he has directed many professional universities, college, military and high school ensembles in the United States , England , Europe, Middle East, Scandinavia , Australia , China , South Korea , Taiwan and Russia.
Tickets, available at the Service Center, are $5 for the public; $4 for those 62 and older, 17 and younger and UW-Eau Claire faculty/staff; or $1.50 for UW-Eau Claire students.
