UW-Eau Claire Student and Faculty Adviser
Attend National Leadership Workshop

 MAILED:  Nov. 9, 2004

EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire sophomore Amanda Thrasher, a chemistry major from Hustisford, and Paula Stuettgen, coordinator for Student Development and Programs at UW-Eau Claire, were invited to attend the Alpha Lambda Delta National Leadership Workshop held in Kansas City, Mo., Oct. 22-24.

Thrasher is the 2004-05 secretary for the UW-Eau Claire chapter of the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society, which recognizes and encourages academic excellence among first-year students, and Stuettgen is the group's primary faculty adviser.

Almost 200 students and advisers attended the workshop, which involved participants in discussions and exercises in problem solving and planning to promote outstanding chapter operations and activities. The program trains student officers and advisers in areas of leadership skills, time management, interpersonal communications, organization and motivation for groups, and also provides national networking opportunities for ALD student members. Participants also learned about the extensive undergraduate and graduate scholarship and grant programs available to members.

Stuettgen said ALD is one of two first-year student honor societies at UW-Eau Claire that recognizes students with GPAs of 3.5 and higher. The local chapter includes 167 active members.

"ALD hosts social activities for its membership as well as study groups and service events," said Stuettgen. "They most recently participated in the UW-Eau Claire 'Tidy Up The Town' program, raking leaves at the homes of elderly citizens."
