EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education will sponsor two programs for social workers, counselors and human service professionals.
Dr. Nicholas Smiar, professor of social work and a former chair of the department of social work at UW-Eau Claire, will present "Understanding HIPAA: The Privacy Standards" from 8:30 to 11:45 a.m. and "Ethics and Boundaries: The Impact of HIPAA" from 12:30 to 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, in Rhinelander at Holiday Acres; Tuesday, Dec. 7, in La Crosse at Days Inn; and Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, in Eau Claire at Park Inn and Suites. The programs will deal with the emergence of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and its impact on all human service professionals, including The Privacy Standards and other requirement standards that have an impact on ethical and client boundary issues.
Tuition is $75 for the morning program (.3 CEUs) and $95 for the afternoon program (.4 CEUs). A $30 savings is available for attending both programs — $140 (includes .7 CEUs and lunch).
