EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning Monday, Nov. 8. All events are free and open to the public.
Monday, Nov. 8:
- Junior Peter Chang, Eau Claire, will present a student violin recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Chang will play Sonata No. 3 in C major by J.S. Bach during the first half of the concert. The program will conclude with Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 47 by Jean Sibelius. Piano accompaniment will be provided by Karol Hommen.
Thursday, Nov. 11:
- UW-Eau Claire will host the Sotto Voce Quartet in a guest artist concert at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Members include Demondrae Thurman, a music instructor and conductor of the Wind Ensemble at Alabama State University; Michael Forbes, assistant professor of music at Illinois State University; composer Patrick Schulz; and freelance artist Nat McIntosh. One of the world's leading low brass ensembles, the quartet pushes the boundaries of chamber music by composing, arranging, and commissioning new works that highlight the diversity of the ensemble and its members. The program will begin with Elizabethan Consort music adapted by Forbes, continuing with pieces by Forbes, Jan Koetsier, George Frideric Handel, John Stevens, and Manning Sherwin.
- The UW-Eau Claire flute choir will perform at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The concert will feature thirteen flute students performing pieces by Paul Hindemith, J.B. Boismortier, Guillame Dufay, Antonio Vivaldi and J.J. Mouret.
Sunday, Nov. 14:
- The UW-Eau Claire Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity will present a student organization recital, an "American Music Recital," at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The concert will begin with "The Star Spangled Banner" by Francis Scott Key. Other pieces include "Hail Sinfonia," arranged by Louis Victor Saar; "Student Life," arranged by William Mulligan; "The Alcotts" by Charles Ives; "Thoughts of Love" by Arthur Pryor; "Phantasm, Op. 92" by Michael G. Cunningham; and more. The concert will conclude with "Sinfonia Parting Song" by Ralph Howard Pendleton.
