College Democrats Offer to Shuttle
Voters to City Hall for Early Voting

 MAILED:  Oct. 27, 2004

EAU CLAIRE — The state of Wisconsin allows the public to vote up to two weeks prior to Election Day, and in a push to get as many people as possible to vote early, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire College Democrats are sponsoring a new project called Get Out the Vote. The student Democrats organized GOTV to provide transportation for students to and from City Hall, where they can vote using absentee ballots until Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 2.

"The purpose of this push is to assure that students won't get discouraged from voting on Nov. 2nd," said senior Steven Kruger, a College Democrat. "There is a large group of Kerry supporters out there on campus and anything can happen on Nov. 2nd to deter them from voting."

If you live on campus, all you need to bring to register and vote is a student ID with a valid dorm sticker, a bill sent to your campus address, or another eligible voter with similar ID who can vouch for your residency as a student. If you live off campus, you need your ID and a bill or statement with your Wisconsin address information. If you do not get any bills, a friend can vouch for your residency, as long as that friend is also an eligible voter with proper identification.

"The objective of this project," said Kruger, "is to give students as many chances as possible to vote because of the ability to do this leading up to the election."

The shuttle is free and will run from 10:30-2 p.m. Oct. 26-29 and Nov. 1. The shuttle departs from the cul-de-sac between Davies Center and Schneider Hall on the UW-Eau Claire campus. Students can simply show up, but a call to reserve a shuttle time would be appreciated.
