Eight Video and Electronic Artists
To Exhibit at UW-Eau Claire

 MAILED:  Oct. 27, 2004

EAU CLAIRE — Eight video and electronic artists from New York City and Pittsburgh, Pa. will contribute for a group show that reflects the transformative nature of media in "Media-Frames: Video, Installation, Electronic Media," a new exhibit opening Nov. 4 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Diverse in form and content, the show ranges from audio installation, through single-channel video to video installation.

The exhibit will be on display through Nov. 24 in the Foster Gallery of the Haas Fine Arts Center. An opening reception will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov 4, in the Foster Gallery.

According to local artist Sean Regan, curator of the show, electronic media is often taken to present the perspective of "reality"; it has pretensions to objectivity. And yet, said Regan, what is evident, when regarded critically, is that media reframes its subject in the very act of representing it.

"Many of the artists in this show are directly concerned with the dynamic of reframing via electronic media," said Regan. "Some express this concern through addressing the manner in which new media reframes and transforms traditional artistic and literary genres — media reframing, performance art, philosophy or even home movies — while others express the concern for the framing of the quotidian experience of daily life."

The exhibiting artists for "Media Frames" are Abigail Child, Deborah Davidovits, Edgar Endress, Hillary Harp, Melissa Friedling, Melissa Ragona, Neil Goldberg and Suzie Silver.

Harp and Silver will give a presentation on their individual work as artists as well as their collaborative work at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, in Room 101 of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
