Forum Speaker Media Availability

 MAILED:  Oct. 26, 2004

John Stauber — investigative writer, democracy activist and author of "Mad Cow U.S.A." — will be available to meet with the news media from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, in the Potawatomi Room, Davies Center on the UW-Eau Claire campus. He will be the featured speaker for The Forum lecture series at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Zorn Arena.

John Stauber was thrust into the international media spotlight last December when he became known as the man who had predicted the emergence of mad cow disease in the United States in his 1997 book "Mad Cow U.S.A.: Could the Nightmare Happen Here?".

Well before the related ailment chronic wasting disease was found in Wisconsin , Stauber warned publicly that it would spread to Wisconsin and urged that no deer or beef be consumed unless it had been tested for CWD and mad cow disease.
