EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning Monday, Nov. 1. All events are free and open to the public.
Monday, Nov. 1:
- Senior mezzo-soprano Christine Schweikert, Coon Rapids, Minn., will present a voice recital at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Beverly Soll will provide piano accompaniment. The program will begin with "O sel'ger Christ" by J.S. Bach and continue with pieces by Franz Schubert, Gioachino Rossini, Antonín Dvorák and Georges Bizet. The performance will conclude with "Que fais-tu, blanche tourterelle" by Charles Gounod, from "Roméo and Juliette."
Tuesday, Nov. 2:
- The United States Air Force Band of Mid-America Chamber Winds Ensemble will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The Chamber Winds is an entertaining and dynamic ensemble with the USAF Band of Mid-America. Comprised of a double woodwind quintet and a percussion duet, this twelve-member ensemble of talented and dedicated musicians creates programs for small or large ensembles as well as solo literature. The program runs the gamut from Renaissance music to contemporary art music.
Wednesday, Nov. 3:
- The Wisconsin Woodwind Quintet will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The performers include Dr. Timothy Lane, professor of music, on the flute; Dr. Christa Garvey, assistant professor of music and theatre arts, on the oboe; Dr. Richard Fletcher, professor of music, on the clarinet; Dr. Kristine Fletcher, lecturer, on the bassoon; and Dr. Verle Ormsby, lecturer, on the horn. Pianist Dr. Alexandre Dossin, assistant professor of music and theatre arts, also will perform. The program will begin with "Rengaines" by André Souris and continue with "Dix-sept. Variations" by Jean-Michel Damase and "Le Petit Nègre" by Claude Debussy. The concert will conclude with "Sextuor" by Francis Poulenc.
Thursday, Nov. 4:
- Senior Nancy Coddington, Phillips, will present a clarinet recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. She will be assisted by senior Kelli Hanson, Duluth, Minn., on the bassoon, and Lori Cruciani, lecturer of music and theatre arts, performing on piano. The recital will begin with Mozart's Concerto in A major and continue with "Lament" by Alan Hovhaness. The program will conclude with "Trio Pathetique in D minor" by Michael Glinka.
Sunday, Nov. 7:
- The period instrument ensemble "Les Favorites" will present a concert at 4 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The featured performers will include Dr. Timothy Lane, professor of music on the baroque flute; Ivar Lunde Jr., professor emeritus, on the baroque oboe; Lucinda Marvin on the baroque violin; Laura Handler on the baroque violoncello; and Nanette G. Lunde, professor emeritus, on the harpsichord. The program will begin with Concerto in B flat major for Oboe, Violin and Basso Continuo by Antonio Vivaldi and continue with works by Dario Castello, Pierre Taillart and Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber. The program will conclude with "Fechtschule (The Fencing School) for Flute, Oboe, Violin, Violoncello and Basso Continuo" by Johann Heinrich Schmelzer.
- Dr. Jeffery Crowell, assistant professor of music and theatre arts, will perform a percussion recital at 5 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The program will begin with "Pink Elisa Spring" by Julie Spencer and continue with works by Bruce Hamilton, Peter Gabriel and Carmen Bradford. The show will conclude with "Uneven Souls" by Nebojsa Zivkovic. This selection will feature student musicians, including senior Margaret Bailey, Edwardsville, Ill., sophomore Sean Carey, Lake Geneva and senior David Whitman, Menomonie.
