Two UW-Eau Claire Ensembles to Perform
At UW-Eau Claire Convention in Madison

 MAILED:  Oct. 18, 2004

EAU CLAIRE — The UW-Eau Claire Singing Statesmen, directed by Dr. Gary Schwartzhoff, professor of music, will perform at the Wisconsin Music Educators Association Convention at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, in the Madison Ballroom of Madison's Monona Terrace.

The program will begin with "Psaume 24" by Lili Boulanger. It will continue with "Salmo 150" by Ernani Aguiar, "The Testament of Freedom" by Randall Thompson, "Weepe Not" by Jackson Berkey, the Irish folk song "Danny Boy," arranged by Jameson Marvin, "You Raise Me Up" by Josh Groban and "Mo Gami Gawa Funa Uta," arranged by Osamu Shimizu. The performance will conclude with an Armed Services Medley arranged by May 2004 graduate Justin Lundberg.

The Singing Statesmen represent diverse academic disciplines with a common respect and admiration for choral music. The creed that is upheld by the membership is "Once a Statesmen, always a Statesmen!" The Singing Statesmen are proud of their tradition of performing choral music representing repertoire from the Renaissance through the Contemporary Period. The Statesmen will soon release a new compact disc, "An American Journey," a musical salute to the United States of America, as performed at the WMEA Convention.

The UW-Eau Claire Trombone Ensemble also will perform at the WMEA Convention at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, at Monona Terrace. The program will feature works by Tylman Susato, Franz Schubert, J.S. Bach, Michael Hennagin, Fritz Velke and John Cheetham.

"The UW-Eau Claire Trombone Ensemble looks forward to the opportunity to play at the state convention this year," said director Phillip Ostrander, assistant professor of music and theatre arts. "The ensemble tours annually to locations in Wisconsin and Minnesota and plans to record in the spring of 2005."
