 MAILED:  Oct. 5, 2004

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire department of music and theatre arts, the Friends of Music and the UW-Eau Claire Foundation will host "Music at Sunset," a Friends of Music recital at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, at the home of Roger Bethard in Chippewa Falls.

The evening will include performances by harpist Paula Smith; pianist Namji Kim, assistant professor of music; and the voice faculty quartet, including soprano Mitra Sadeghpour, assistant professor of music and theatre arts; mezzo-soprano Kathryn Proctor Duax, professor of music; tenor Daniel Newman, associate professor of music; and baritone Robert Knight, professor of music.

The social hour will begin at 6 p.m. with hors d'oeuvres and a performance of harp music by Smith. The program will feature favorite pieces by Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Puccini and more. Kim will perform first and play accompaniment for the voice faculty quartet in the second half of the performance.

The keynote performer of the evening will be Kim, a talented new faculty member and pianist. She graduated from the National Superior Conservatory of Paris and earned a bachelor's degree from the Juilliard school and a doctor of musical arts degree from the Manhattan School of Music. Kim has performed at concerts in North America, Europe, Russia and Korea.

The steering committee of the Friends of Music planned this event to continue the fund development campaign for the department of music and theatre arts. The cost for the recital is $60 and includes hors d'oeuvres and wine. $45 of that amount is tax deductible as a charitable donation. Reservations are required and seating is limited. Early reservations are encouraged. To make a reservation, call the UW-Eau Claire music department office, (715) 836-4954, or the UW-Eau Claire Foundation office, (715) 836-5630.
