Big Screen Version of Comedy Series
To Screen at UW-Eau Claire Sept. 30-Oct. 3

 MAILED:  Sept. 24, 2004

EAU CLAIRE —"Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie" will be presented Sept. 30-Oct. 3 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The 1996 film will screen at 6 and 8:30 p.m. Thursday through Sunday in Davies Theatre.

In this big-screen version of the Emmy-nominated Comedy Central series, a hapless human and his two robot sidekicks are exiled to the far reaches of space and forced to watch an endless stream of cheesy B-movies as part of a fiendish experiment. Mike, Servo and Crow manage the impossible with their running commentary on what's on the screen — they make bad movies fun to watch.

This time out, Mike Nelson, Tom Servo and Crow are forced to watch "This Island Earth," a 1955 science-fiction movie about scientists at a mysterious research station who are really aliens, kidnapping humans they believe can help them defend their planet from invaders.

The 73-minute film is rated PG-13 for some sexual humor.

Admission is $2 for International Film Society members and UW-Eau Claire faculty/staff and $1 for UW-Eau Claire students. Tickets are available at the University Service Center in Davies Center's east lobby, (715) 836-3727. The film is sponsored by the University Activities Commission of the UW-Eau Claire Student Senate.
