Roma Hoff Instructional Resource Center
To Be Dedicated Oct. 1

 MAILED:  Sept. 22, 2004

EAU CLAIRE — The Roma Hoff Instructional Resource Center at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will be dedicated at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 1 in Room 311 of Hibbard Hall. The dedication will be preceded by an Open House with refreshments, beginning at 2 p.m.

The event marks the culmination of a two-year process involving many individuals from several campus units as well as Roma Hoff, professor emerita of Spanish, whose major gift contribution helped make the facility a reality.

"We are pleased to honor Dr. Hoff at the ceremony and to express our gratitude to all the other persons who have lent their time and expertise to bring this effort to fruition," said Johannes Strohschänk, interim chair of the department of foreign languages.

The Center features 30 computer stations and a two-monitor teaching station. Strohschänk said the state-of-the-art software allows multiple combinations of student/teacher and student/student interaction, provides live video and audio input from various sources, including the Internet, and features the latest technology for instructor-authored materials such as exercises, quizzes and tests.

"The Center can be used on a library-mode, walk-in basis by students of foreign languages or in a classroom setting," Strohschänk said. "It will not only enhance the department's efficiency in foreign language instruction, but it will also help attract students who have grown up in a digital environment."
