EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning Monday, Sept. 27. All events are free and open to the public.
Tuesday, Sept. 28:
- Guest artist Mark Kellogg will present a recital featuring the trombone and euphonium at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Kellogg is a member of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and a teacher at the Eastman School of Music. The first half of the program will begin with Paul Hindemith's Sonate for Trombone and Piano and continue with works by Jeff Tyzik, J.E. Barat, Claude Débussy, Sigismond Stojowski and Georg Philipp Telemann and finish with Concert Variations for Euphonium and Piano by Jan Bach. Kellogg will be accompanied by pianist Joseph Werner, who has a varied career as a soloist, collaborative artist, orchestral pianist, administrator, and educator. Kellogg also will be assisted by Phillip Ostrander, assistant professor of music and theatre arts, on the trombone.
Sunday, Oct. 3:
- Soprano Mitra Sadeghpour, assistant professor of music and theatre arts, pianist Barbara Wimunc-Pearson, professor of music, and pianist Alexandre Dossin, assistant professor of music and theatre arts, will present a joint faculty recital at 2 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The concert will feature the works of Claude Débussy and will begin with a brief lecture, "Hedonism and Irony: Debussy's Life and Work," presented by Gary Don, assistant professor of music and theatre arts. Next, Sadeghpour and Wimunc-Pearson will perform the six-part vocal piece "Ariettes oubliées," which features text by poet Paul Verlaine. The second half of the program will feature Dossin performing a selection of Débussy's piano pieces, including the well-known "Clair de Lune."
