UW-Eau Claire Speaker to Discuss
Methods for Delivering Online News

EAU CLAIRE — Roger Utnehmer, owner of three small FM stations in Sturgeon Bay, will talk about convergence and "The Future of Small Market Radio News" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, at a meeting of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. The program, which will take place in Room 103 of Hibbard Hall, will focus on methods of delivering online news using multiple media techniques.

Utnehmer has been developing his online e-newspaper,, for the last 18 months and will discuss how he conceived the idea of using a Web publication to extend the news reach of his three FM stations. His Web site features stories in print format with audio accompaniment, and Utnehmer has plans to include video as part of the publication as well. He will discuss staffing, production, headaches and successes (including financial), advertising time and space sales, feedback, and the various features of his Web site, which will be displayed during his presentation.

Utnehmer has owned small market Wisconsin radio stations since l977, starting in Antigo, Eagle River and Park Falls before moving to the Sturgeon Bay market. He is president of the International Broadcasters Idea Bank, comprised of l00 members from throughout the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and is on the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association and the Radio Advertising Bureau. Utnehmer has been a frequent speaker at National Association of Broadcasters and RAB conventions and trains sales staffs throughout the United States with his seminar, "The 99 Habits of Highly Effective Salespeople."
