UW-Eau Claire Fall Planetarium Schedule
To Include Several New Programs

 MAILED:  Sept. 3, 2004

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire will begin its Fall 2004 public Planetarium Shows this month at the L.E. Phillips Planetarium in Phillips Science Hall.

New offerings include "Astronomy for Kids," a 30-minute show designed for ages 4 and up, to be presented at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4 and 11; Oct. 2; Nov. 6 and 13; and Dec. 4 and 11.

All other programs are held at 7 p.m. Tuesdays throughout the semester and last about one hour. Each will end with a presentation by a live host who will talk about the current night sky and answer questions.

“Mr. Genius Tours the Solar System,” a perennial favorite, will be presented on the first Tuesday of each month, Sept. 7 through Dec. 2. This presentation is a light-hearted introduction to astronomy aimed primarily at elementary school children, ages 6 and up.

"Adventures Along the Spectrum,” another new show, will be presented Sept. 14, Oct. 12 and Nov. 9. In this program, Mr. Genius learns about light from his cousin, Professor Photon. What is light? Let bumbling Professor Photon unravel this mystery for you as he explores the properties of the electromagnetic spectrum in this light-hearted multi-media show for children, ages 10 and up.

"Constellations, Myths, and Legends" will be presented Sept. 21 and 28, and Nov. 16, 23, and 30, and "Ringworld: Cassini Investigates Saturn" will be presented Oct. 19 and 26 and Dec. 14. Both of these programs were developed with adults and children 11 and up in mind.

Spring semester planetarium programs and schedules will be announced at a later date.

An adult should accompany young children to any planetarium program.

Tickets cost $1 and must be purchased in advance at the UW-Eau Claire Service Center, (715) 836-3727. No tickets will be sold at the planetarium door.
