Perform at International Festival

 MAILED:  July 26, 2004

EAU CLAIRE - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Trombone Ensemble recently performed at the 2004 International Trombone Festival in Ithaca, N.Y. The trombone ensemble was led by assistant professor of music Phillip Ostrander and assisted by guest conductor and performer Rodney Hudson, emeritus professor of music.

Student conductor and arranger Joe Harston, a senior from Oconomowoc, led a performance of his arrangement of "Nimrod" from Edward Elgar's "Enigma Variations," and junior Adam Boll, Fifield, performed a solo for his arrangement of Rossini's "The Barber of Seville." Composer Eric Ewazen was in the audience to hear the group perform his composition "Posaunenstadt."

During the remaining days of the festival, the UW-Eau Claire students had the opportunity to attend numerous concerts and clinics given by some of the world's finest tenor and bass trombonists, including Nitzan Haroz, principal trombonist of the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Other members of the UW-Eau Claire Trombone Ensemble include seniors Sean Solberg, Minot, N.D.; Keith Hilson, Eau Claire; Patrick Bents, Eagan and Duluth, Minn.; Joshua Heyer, Green Bay; and James Yardley, Duluth, Minn.; juniors Kenyon Scheurman, River Falls; and Randy Pingrey, Baraboo; sophomores Corey Van Sickle, Pigeon Falls; Leslie Bergmann, Mazeppa, Minn.; and Henry Seroogy, De Pere; and freshman Matt Tiller, Osseo.
