Billy Krause Trio to Perform
July 26 at UW-Eau Claire

 MAILED:  July 14, 2004

EAU CLAIRE - The Billy Krause Trio will present a free outdoor concert Monday, July 26, at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

The show will begin at 7 p.m. on the Central Campus Mall. Refreshments will be sold. Audience members are invited to bring blankets or folding chairs for lawn seating.

The three-man acoustic group performs both familiar and obscure, but always enjoyable, non-mainstream music. Billy Krause, Chuck Roll and Mike Quick are veteran musicians who have worked for more than 30 years in many formats - as solo artists, in small ensembles, and in table-thumping electric roadhouse bands. Their music covers ragtime, older standards, traditional blues and originals, as well as island and contemporary folk styles. A Fats Waller tune may be followed by a song written by John Prine, Van Morrison or John Hiatt. Vintage jug-band music may segue into a tune from The Grateful Dead.

On Tuesday and Thursday, July 20 and 22, "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" (2000) will continue the Coen brothers festival on the Summer Cinema series. The film will screen at noon and 7 p.m. in Davies Theatre.

George Clooney, John Turturro and Tim Blake Nelson are three fugitives from a chain gang who have a series of Homeric adventures in the Depression-era South. "It's a new thing," wrote the Washington Post, "classic myth from both literature and the movies, commingled, set to great folk music, and untrammeled by any sense of predictability, urgency, realism or believability but hypnotic, graceful and seductive."

Rated PG-13, the 103-minute color film will screen via DVD projection. Admission is free.

Summer Session Programs continue through Aug. 5. More information is available from the Activities and Programs office, Davies Center 133, (715) 836-4833, and on the Web.
